TAMPA: Atrapada en un automóvil al revés hundiéndose en el lodo, el agua fría que se elevaba hasta su barbilla, su ubicación envuelta en neblina, Amanda Nicole Antonio llamó al 911 para pedir ayuda.
Intentó sofocar el creciente pánico en su voz cuando el despachador respondió.
Eran alrededor de las 4 de la madrugada del día de Año Nuevo, y la joven de 20 años no tenía idea de dónde había caído el automóvil volcado en el lado de la Interestatal 4:
"Mi auto está volteado y no puedo ver nada y hay agua entrando en el auto", dijo la mujer de Seffner, de 20 años.
La Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Hillsborough publicó el miércoles la grabación de su dramática llamada de 20 minutos al 911. Los agentes rescataron a Antonio el martes temprano, pero solo porque ella pudo mantener la calma y ayudar a guiarlos a su ubicación.
Antonio estaba conduciendo un Scion 2008 hacia el este en la I-4, cerca de la rampa de la salida de la U.S. 301, cuando fue interrumpida, perdió el control y se volcó por un muro de contención empinado y hasta una zanja llena de agua, dijeron las autoridades. Ella estaba usando su cinturón de seguridad en el momento del accidente, por lo que pudo escapar con solo unos pocos moretones y lesiones menores.
Antonio encontró un espacio pequeño de aire que se encogía entre los asientos delanteros del conductor y del pasajero mientras hablaba con el operador del 911.
En la grabación, no podía recordar la marca o modelo del sedán de dos puertas de su novio. Pero sí le dijo al despachador que viajaba hacia el este hacia Orlando y que había dejado la carretera en algún lugar entre la salida 7 y la salida 10.
Se puede escuchar a Antonio jadeando en busca de aire mientras el agua y el lodo se acumulan en el vehículo durante la llamada. Aún así, ella sigue las instrucciones calmadas del despachador y continúa hablando hasta que los agentes puedan llegar a ella.
"No sé qué decir, me estoy congelando", dijo. "Se está subiendo a mi cuello. Estoy tan asustada. Por favor diles que vengan más rápido. Por favor, ayúdame ... Mi teléfono se está muriendo, está en el 5 por ciento ".
Luego detuvo su ubicación en Google Maps y le dijo al despachador que estaba al lado del Anfiteatro Midflorida Credit Union en el recinto ferial del estado de Florida.
Eso pudo haber ayudado a reducir la búsqueda mientras un helicóptero del alguacil y 13 vehículos recorrieron ambos lados de la I-4 en busca del auto que se hundía.
Mientras tanto, Antonio intentó escapar por su cuenta. Ella trató de abrir la ventana del auto, pero no pudo. Ella tampoco podía abrir una puerta sumergida. Ni siquiera la bocina del auto funcionó.
Pidió a la operadora del 911 que llamara a su madre y a su novio, y les transmitiera sus nombres y números de teléfono. Cuando se le preguntó cuántos años tenía, Antonio le dijo al operador que cumpliría 21 años el sábado.
"¿Estás emocionado por tu cumpleaños?", Preguntó el operador.
"Ya no," respondió Antonio.
Ella le dijo al operador que pronto tendría que contener la respiración.
Entonces, el débil sonido de sirenas y oficiales que gritaban se podía escuchar en el fondo.
El agente Ryan Cooper divisó al automóvil Scion hundido en la carretera interestatal y se metió en el barro espeso y de talle alto. Él entrenó a Antonio para que se mantuviera firme, siguió hablando con el 911 y le dijo que pronto sería rescatada.
Luego, dos miembros del equipo de buceo del alguacil, los agentes Chris Sullivan y Jeremy Pollack, llegaron con tanques de aire. Abrieron la puerta del auto, encerrada en un espeso lodo y la liberaron del auto.
"¿Cómo te va?", Se oyó a un agente, le preguntó a Antonio mientras la ayudaban a estar segura.
Ella fue tratada brevemente en el Tampa General Hospital, y luego descansó en su casa el martes.
Su madre, Wanda Guzmán, le dijo al Tampa Bay Times el martes que su hija temía lo peor. "Ella me dijo: 'Pensé que iba a morir'", dijo Guzmán. "Debe haber estado un ángel a su alrededor".
