TAMPA- Las encuestas no se equivocaron. El Tampa Bay Times publicó un sondeo público hace un mes que arrojo que la exjefa de la policía de Tampa, Jane Castor, contaba con una ventaja dominante en la contienda electoral para reemplazar al alcalde Bob Buckhorn.
En la encuesta a 429 votantes registrados en Tampa y realizada por St. Pete Polls, Castor contó con el apoyo del 45.3 por ciento de los votantes, lo que triplicó el margen porcentual sobre el candidato del segundo lugar.
El segundo lugar, en la encuesta, lo ocupó el banquero y filántropo retirado David Straz Jr. con un 12.9 por ciento.
Al cierre de nuestra edición los resultados de votación en urnas indicaron que la contienda por la alcaldía de Tampa se fue a segunda vuelta entre Straz quien alcanzó un poco más del 15% por ciento de los votos y Castor que superó el 48 por ciento. Con una votación que llegó apenas a un 20.24 por ciento de los votantes registrados.
Para ganar el candidato debería alcanzar al menos 50 por ciento de los votos. La segunda vuelta se efectuará el 23 de abril.

Castor creció y se educó en Tampa. Se graduó de Chamberlain High School Clase de 77, asistió a la Universidad de Tampa con una beca deportiva y se unió al Departamento de Policía de Tampa. Vive en Seminole Heights desde 1982.
Straz se graduó en la Universidad de Marquette y asistió brevemente a la escuela de Leyes antes de decidir ingresar al mundo de los negocios. Straz desarrolló una pequeña red de 26 bancos comunitarios en el sureste de Wisconsin. Se mudó a Tampa Bay en 1980 y comenzó a construir una red de bancos comunitarios en Florida que eventualmente creció a 21 sucursales en los condados de Hillsborough y Pinellas.
